When nature needs a hand
Induction of labour
Most inductions take place on Ward 4 (see tour, although there are some changes to the ward since this was made, due to winter pressures) Where possible you will have a single room. It can take a couple of days to encourage your body into labour, especially with the first baby.

Forceps or Ventouse Birth
In labour an assisted birth may be necessary if the baby is showing signs of distress and needs to be born quickly; and the mother's cervix is already fully dilated.
Caesarean Section Birth
The 'elective' C Sections take place from Ward 4, for many different reasons, eg if baby is in a breech position or your placenta is lying over the cervix.
In labour, an emergency C section may be necessary if the baby is showing signs of distress and needs to be born quickly; and the mother's cervix is not fully dilated.
